The San Diego Ballet gave a very good performance of Balanchine's work; the principal dancers were especially good. The only drawback was that they had to dance to recorded music; dancing to a live orchestra contributes significantly to dance. But, it's certainly understandable in these difficult times; it's remarkable that cultural organizations like San Diego Ballet even exist - so many are struggling in this economy. The Spreckels is a beautiful theatre, but showing its age; why can't our city restore this jewel. Dumb question; we really need a sports venue so very much more, don't we? Joan Keetch
