How was your experience?
I was disappointed in the staging at the Keller - - it was too dark. And the sound was both loud and indiscernible, which I'm sure was made worse by the uneven accents of the players. I went in wanting to love the musical as much if not more than I love the movie but I left disappointed. Too many unweildy, unmemorable songs and too little dialog. And despite having seen the movie, my daughter needed me to explain the background story about the unions and Maggie Thatcher as what dialog there was was too garbled to be understood. The dancing, however, was wonderful, and the children made it all worthwhile. In addition to the boys who played Billy and Michael being fabulous, the ballerinas were hysterical and fantastic to watch. It takes an excellent dancer to play a lousy dancer and their first number, where they over danced and clowned, was worth the admission.
