Tuesday May 10, 2011 / 7:30pm (Opening Night)9 to 5: The Musical
Orchestra Rows A-Q
How was your experience?
Fun, fast-paced romp. That said, characters and plot aren't revealed so much as presented, which means you get the Cliff's Notes version of the movie. Dolly Parton's intro video clips are fun, and give you the sense that everybody's included, and we're all friends here anyway, so relax and have fun, y'all. There were significant sound problems on opening night. Principals were under-miked, so when the orchestra was playing you couldn't really tell what they were singing unless they were at the very top of their singing range. The chorus was over-miked, so their singing drowned out the principals. Hope they fix this, because there are some very funny jokes and lines not getting out to the audience-and I had orchestra seats! The show has a bunch of girls' "anthem" songs, but IMHO, the male love interest has the best song in the show, halfway thru the 2nd act. It's probably the best "moment" in the show - there's real feeling and character connection from both actors. I sorta wished there were more of those moments. (sigh) BUT, if you want a fun night out with lots of jokes, high energy, and good performances, GO SEE THIS SHOW. You'll have a blast!
