How was your experience?
There is a warning on the front of the theatre - the first few rows will be a "spray zone." Those patrons are given trashbag/ponchos to protect them from the blood sporayed on them. This is a romp. Last night was the SECOND time I have seen the show (which was given a rave review by the LA Times.) One member of the audience had seen it 14 times. This is a combination of Grand Guignol ( that old French custom of melodrama and blood-letting on stage) and a college midnight show (think Hasty Pudding and the such.) So-so music, so-so story (based on a B-movie with every film scene reproduced in the stage show) but it adds up to a Great Show - very , very enjoyable. Last night the theatre should have been empty because it is a long holiday weekend and it was packed. Good word of mouth is keeping it at the Steve Allen Theatre until late Aug - maybe longer. It is sure to move to Off Broadway.
