How was your experience?
This was a very modernized adaptation of the French classic, "Cyrano de Bergerac", though you would never know this from reading the program. I don't think they should have assumed that everyone knows this; it's an important fact which ought to have been included in the program notes. The adaptation was based on a story by Edmond Rostand written in France, centuries ago. I agree that this was an "exciting, new adaptation." The fancy costumes compensated for the stark lack of a stage set. I found the adaptation very entertaining and well acted by everyone in the cast. There were no weak links. As someone who took a lot of French courses and read this in the original old French, I might normally be a bit of a purest and want the play to stay closer to the original, but somehow this modernized version of the story charmed me. The script was intelligently written and the acting was very, very good. I enjoyed it and recommend it.
