How was your experience?
The acting, the set and the venue were all first rate - no questions about it. From a technical standpoint the show was well executed. The main prop (the barber shop/meat pie bakery/slaughterhouse) served its purpose extremely well. The piece looked right for the period but had a translucent quality to it that let you get a glimpse of the horror that took place within it while not being too overtly gory. My main critique is the story itself. The director should find a way condense the first half by a minimum of 15-20 minutes while making the relationship between Sweeney Todd (Benjamin Barker), Lucy and Johanna more lucid. This is an interesting story but it seems someone has to figure out a way to make it more captivating so as to not lose the audience. I saw many people sleeping during the 8:30pm show on Saturday, September 17th. Trimming the duration of the first half and delivering concise clarity to the Sweeney Todd (Benjamin Barker), Lucy and Johanna conundrum will make this show a 5-star first rate winner.
