How was your experience?
I booked three tickets for the Zephyr Liberty Cruise as part of an all-day birthday celebration for my mom. We had previously rode the Shark, and thought this particular cruise would be fun to do the next time around. What began as a wonderful day, no rain, pretty empty seaport, scenic view, slowly turned in to something a bit more frantic. As we were waiting to board, we noticed a very large tour group approaching the boarding area. After living in NYC all of my life, I am aware this is the type of fare people like to take part in when visiting the U.S. The issue I took with this was, 1) the tour group was way too large (even for a boat which seats 600), 2) those in the tour group surrounding our area were extremely rude, and 3) this many people slammed into the top of the boat as excited (for lack of a better term) as they were detracted from the fun. At one point the boat started rocking because of waves, and many in the tour group started panicking unnecessarily, which in turn, prompted them to act just a bit too crazy (or I should say dangerously). Furthermore, many did not abide by the rules which state no standing on the seats, and the boat handlers had to walk around asking them to get down repeatedly. Nevermind the fact tour members were literally climbing over my mother as she sat in her seat and pushing my 8-year old out of the way to get views they could see simply by just remaining calm and slowly making their way to the side of the boat. Overall, we made the best of it and the sights themselves were beautiful. The tour guide was fantastic, and very funny. We were sure to tip him on the way out because he definitely deserved it. I did ask one of the staff if they normally gets this many tour groups, and she said they did not. So hopefully we can try one more time and fully enjoy the cruise. I do recommend checking it out, but just keep in mind your overall satisfaction could be a toss-up depending on varying factors.
