How was your experience?
This is our second trip to the Segerstrom Hall to see a musical and we thought it was just OK. My husband, who enjoys musicals as much as I do, dozed off twice during the show. The theme of the musical was interesting, the backdrop changes were impressive and numerous, the songs were just alright (only a couple of them were catchy), and the quality of the cast was uneven - ranging from shrieky to not bad. What I did enjoy about the show: Lord Farquaad's number "Welcome to Duloc". Everything else was quite forgettable. Nevertheless, it's one of the few musicals that you can take the kids. And there were many children in the audience that night. What I do not enjoy about the venue: the expensive parking fees; the walk from the parking structure to the Hall; the ridiculous lines at the Ladies' room during intermission; the enormous size of the theater, which means most folks are sitting a long ways from the stage; the strange sound system which gets a little muffled at times during the show and thus rendering some performances incomprehensible; and the uneven quality of performers in the show. Although this venue is grander, fancier and much closer to where we live - which is in South OC - we prefer to drive down to La Mirada Theatre instead, where the quality of the performances & sound system, and overall theatre-going experience is much more enjoyable.
