How was your experience?
Went for the umpteenth time to this ballet, (3rd to this SF Ballet production). Saw it this time through eyes of 7 year old twin grandchildren (boy and girl) who were enchanted by the first act, gasping at the magic, the changes from toys to live puppets, and excited by Clara's dream. The were very enthusiastic about the familiar music and seeing orchestra in the pit.(and a bit too audible with questions, in spite of shushing). Second act was a bit too long for them, but each had favorites. Whole experience was a success in my book. They are from this generation's "electronic kids", spending hours with virtual people, avatars, characters punching or teasing each other--for fun. This live ballet was an experience in "real live people" doing wonderful graceful and skilled moves to beautiful music. "How do they do that? " and " I can do those moves". were two of the most rewarding things I heard. Both went home and did their versions of pas de deux later combined with hip hop.
