How was your experience?
It was a nice performance. I had never seen Oklahoma before so everything was new to me. The Seattle performance has been shrouded in controversy because the character of Jud is performed by an African American. I didn't find it offensive or controversial, but did find it a bit odd that at the turn of the century in Oklahoma there would have been such an acceptance of African American's as part of the community. To me that made the story a bit of a stretch. While African Americans did make up a significant portion of the Oklahoma Territory population at that time, I am not sure how integrated into white society they actually were. In this story, they are fully integrated and treated no different than any of the other main characters. Overall I enjoyed the performance. It was certainly worth the price of admission.
