How was your experience?
The Mikado is one of my all-time favorite operettas. It is funny, satirical, entirely delightful, and the music is fabulous. Although we enjoyed the show in some respects, this production is extremely uneven, with some moments that had us laughing out loud and others that made us cringe. The pit orchestra has some good musicians and some who are very out of tune and rhythm. The singers and actors, as is to be expected of an amateur production, are similarly uneven, with some who have excellent voices and others who don't harmonize with the others; a few stand-out actors with great stage presence and hilarious expressiveness, and others who seemed like they were totally uncomfortable being on stage. Hard to rate because in some respects it's a three star production and in some a one, so I gave it a two.
