How was your experience?
I absolutely love Neil LaBute's work and have seen other productions of his here. He's now artist-in-residence at Profiles Theatre and deservedly so. His plays always involve very adult themes and are not for the faint of heart but are cathartic and this play was no exception. The theatre has been expanded and renovated and I was thrilled with the new roomy comfortable seats and unobstructed view. We went to a Saturday afternoon matinee that was not sold out. I do have to warn non-smokers or asthmatics that the actors briefly smoke on stage. The set design was outstanding and literally the third star/character of the play. I hate productions that mask lazy set design as minimalism. Both lead actors were also wonderful although I do wonder if they could have been directed to not have their backs face the audience as much as they did. Nevertheless, huge applause to the cast especially on the days they do 2 shows. This is a difficult, emotional, physical, exhausting work. Whenever there's a Neil LaBute play on at Profiles, I am first in line.
