How was your experience?
Loved it. A very tight, well-rehearsed show. Terrific to hear the old (and newer) Chicago tunes. Then, in the end, when both bands played together on "25 or 6 to 4" it was amazing. Sixteen musicians, three lead guitarists trading solos - quite a thrill. One MAJOR complaint - it was WAY, WAY too loud. Four of us went to the concert, and we all had to wear earplugs. This seriously decreased my enjoyment because then mostly the bass drum came through. I'm a bass player, and I could not even hear the bass players. The bass drums were too loud, overall. As a rock musician, I have constant ringing in my ears for twenty years, now, and have become aware of ear safety. The sound level at this concert was easily above the level that will cause irreversible hearing loss. I blame both the Sleep Train Pavilion and the Doobie/Chicago sound personnel for that.
