Arena Stage's production of Music Man made for a very enjoyable evening. The acting, dancing and singing were all top tier, from the leads to the ensemble. I was distracted by the odd costuming choice -- setting the scene not in 1912 (where the Wells Fargo Wagon has much more meaning), but (it seemed) somewhere in the 40s or 50s. It really took away somewhat from the charm and innocence of the Music Man, which I think depends on the naivete of pre-WW America. I can't help wondering of this was a budget choice. But nonetheless I would recommend this production to anyone who loves musical theatre.
