Assigned at Box Office
How was your experience?
I guess the playwright didn't want this to just be a straight "concert" so he tried to give it some sort of plot. The problem is that the plot seems to be a sanitized version of Janis's life, so it was kind of contrived, and made me think that it *should've* just been a concert. We wound up seeing Alison Cusano as Janice, who's not even the understudy, but the "alternate", so we got the third string. She seemed uneasy on stage, and also sounded like she wasn't giving it her all, with her singing. The true star of the show was Sabrina Carten, who was the "blues singer" and had various roles during the show (Bessie Smith, Aretha Franklin, etc). She has a set of pipes on her not to be believed, and got louder applause than Cusano did. We were disappointed that we didn't get to see Mary Bridget Davies perform Janis; we might've enjoyed the show better if we got to see the first string QB.
