How was your experience?
With his love of adapting bad old B-movies to the stage, Brian Newell outdoes himself this time. Plan 9 is the perfect film for this treatment and Newell's adaptation is a perfect meld of over-the-top parody and loving tribute. The use of rear-screen projected miniature sets and special effects (with the effects operators in view of the audience) is ingenious and hilarious. Although the running time is under an hour, shorter by 20 minutes than the film, it doesn't seem too short. Besides, I don't think I could have laughed any longer withing risking injury. The cast is perfect with a Vampira who out-vamps Maila Nurmi (the original), and a special appearance by Bela Lugosi himiself. Although the website says the show is not intended for children under 13, I don't see why. There's nothing offensive. I would have gone bananas over this when I was a kid. As I am now.
