How was your experience?
The Messiah was tired. I kept waiting for the "refreshed" part, but decided I must be at the wrong show. Yes, I know it's a long choral piece, and that the famous Chorus comes in the seventh inning stretch, which was just in time. Even that didn't have the power I've known it to have. The 200 or so singers seemed to be holding back, but especially the four soloists. The soloists were either too weak, or else they were also bored. Only once or twice did the soprano really belt it out like she felt it. I try to go to a Messiah performance somewhere every year, so I am glad I went, but I'd rate this performance less than refreshing. I was going to give it two stars, but I added the third for the sheer logistics of putting that many singers together on stage and keeping them there for 3 hours without a bathroom break.
