How was your experience?
This was really a sub-par production - there was no live orchestra, the sets looked like they'd had minimal effort put into them, the costumes weren't super impressive, and there were weird instances where people dressed as bears, unicorns, and elephants wandered into the background of the scenes, presumably for comedic effect (this made me feel sorry for the dancers in the foreground, who were doing a fine job of dancing, but nobody was paying attention to them because everyone was too busy laughing at what was going on in the background). I don't know if this production is geared toward only little kids or what, but I guess if you had a 5-8 year old kid, it'd be perfectly fine for him/her. But if you're an adult and looking for a good Nutcracker production you can enjoy, this isn't it. Also, I know the Wiltern is a historic building or whatever, but (1) the parking situation is shameful ($25 for "event parking"??), (2) the theater doesn't have enough bathrooms (three stalls in the upstairs women's bathroom), and (3) this isn't a movie theater - why are they allowing people to eat popcorn and churros during the performance? Ultimately, I felt pretty ripped off, even though I'd purchased "discounted" tickets through Goldstar. If I'd paid full price for the tickets, I would have been furious.
