This play has a charming feel, and that's what saves it. But I just don't think Dicken's classic play works as this lavish musical rendition. It leaves you with warm fuzzies, but not after having gone through several 'please make it stop' moments. The kids will probably like this, but adults will find themselves missing the classic Christmas Carol. The dark and haunting aspect to the spirits visits and Scroog's tortured soul are lost in this version. It's all about his happy transformation, which ultimately isn't as satisfying given the character was never really convincing as a humbug from the beginning.
