414 Mason St
San Francisco, CA 94102
How was your experience?
Fun night out! Kurt takes us through a history of San Francisco going all the way back to the Gold Rush, focusing on the weird side of our city. He starts off by describing the kind of characters he encountered on Haight St the 80's when he first moved here, then immediately takes us back to the 1880's, showing us how weird and unique the city's inhabitants were even back then (there was a guy running around calling himself Oofty Goofty, letting people on the street hit him with a baseball bat for a quarter!). From there, he hits all the major eras of San Francisco history, from the 1906 earthquake to the beats, hippies, etc.. always tying it in with the modern San Francisco we're all familiar with and keeping us laughing the whole way. There's even some fun musical numbers thrown in, including an ode to The Tenderloin to which I have to say it's about time someone did that! If he ever records it, I'll be downloading it for sure. It looks like whatever issues he had opening night have been cleared up as it was a good, flowing performance that kept me engaged the whole time. I not only had a lot of laughs, but I left knowing more about the city I call home.
