How was your experience?
Salt Creek Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker had lots of little things that added to the enjoyment and rib-nudging. The “children” included a boy wearing Harry Potter glasses, the "cossack" kicked twice as high with his right leg as his left and did marvelous sideways flips, Uncle Drosselmeyer definitely had mastered the art of cape swirling, and later another of the "children" came out to sit with her family for the second act still in her full stage makeup and so nicely full of herself for having really really danced in this production. Mother Ginger was hysterical as "she" kept texting and talking on a cell phone, then taking pictures of the children as they scampered out from her skirt. I didn’t miss the bits with the owl changing into Uncle D or the gnomes carrying torches. The company and stars were enthusiastic and seemed to enjoy themselves. Proud parents in the audience were great and added to the pleasure of a good performance. This was our first experience of this company and I can’t wait for next year.
