How was your experience?
Both the orchestra and the dance performance were brilliant. First act was a lot of fun because there was a dramatic sequence - a "through line" you could say, with climax and resolution. If I were the dance company I would re-script the second act to center around another story - or re-script both acts to include part one and part two of the nutcracker vs. mouse dream. It could be exciting to have the first act end in crisis and the second act provide resolution. Another suggestion for the dance copany - Make the stage floor more interesting. From where we sat in dress circle it looked dusty and worn, not like part of a festive stage set. The last time I saw Nutcracker my children were young, and we went to the Boston Ballet. I remember the performance as more imaginative and dreamlike in set, costume and story. Still, that may just be my memory. This time I came with my grandchildren who are 5 and 7 and I was happy to share the performance with them for the first time. One of their favorite parts of the whole experience was the snow falling outside the theatre. Their favorite part of the ballet was the exciting, scary arrival of the King Mouse in the first act.
