How was your experience?
The Washington Ballet's Nutcracker at Warner Theater was a fun family event. A great show for children and adults alike. Everyone should see it once. We had perfect seats from Goldstar -- center orchestra -- and we only bought a few days ahead of the performance. The seats we get through Goldstar never disappoint. The assistant artistic director made a lovely speech prior to the performance for people attending their first ballet (but really aimed at all in the audience). It was a very nice way to communicate proper etiquette for a ballet performance rather than the typical "no talking, no phones, no photos." He made a somewhat awkward topic pleasant and educational for all. Nicely done. Some thoughts -- 1) if you are taking a small child, be aware that they are set up selling lots items (nutcrackers and ornaments) as soon as you arrive, so if you are trying to avoid the sales area, bear to the right side of the lobby; 2) they sell beer and wine for adults! plus some limited snacks (grilled cheese bar) plus candy and drinks, which you are allowed to take inside with you to your seats, I suppose it would be fine to carry your own snacks for children (there was also no bag check like at many DC events); and last 3) the night we attended, the theater was very warm. Keep that in mind when dressing for the event. We dressed in layers for a cold night, then shed coats AND sweaters.
