How was your experience?
Excellent production of this slightly problematic Andrew Lloyd Webber show. For the most part, reworking the staging succeeded in putting the focus back on the characters (rather than the sets, as had been the case on Broadway and in the original touring company), making the intersections of Norma, Joe, Max and Betty much more vital. Singing is largely top notch throughout and the "pool" orchestra gave life to the dramatic score without overpowering performers or the audience. The opening scenes remain a little jittery -- there is a lot going on there and a lot of story is getting told quickly. Those not previously familiar with the film or the musical may have some difficulty keeping up. But that is more a flaw of the show than this production. For us it was a truly enjoyable evening of theater.
