How was your experience?
The music of Barnum is trapped in a period that has not progressed. leaving most of the score unimpressive with maybe 2 to 3 memorable numbers. The actors are largely mediocre and appear to be going through the steps, except for Gene Weygandt who portrays Barnum himself. The one thing that seperates this production from an A list community theater project is the circus art that is thrown in for that authentic bigtop feel. In my opinion, The Mecury Theater has always hosted C+ to B- projects that just seem to be lacking something, or a few somethings. This Barnum is better than their usual offerings which is quite a blessing for such a beautiful, accomodating space like The Mercury!
