How was your experience?
Despite a dreary, drizzly day, we had a wonderful time in Chicago yesterday. We went to the little gem of a theater, the Mercury, on the north side and saw the matinee of Barnum, the musical. Our family saw the original cast in Los Angeles in this show in the early 80's - just before we moved to Barrington. We haven't heard a thing about the show since then. We were all captured by it then. Before we went to the show yesterday, we re-recorded the music from our old original LP and put it on a CD, so we got to remember the great music ahead of time. We bought our tickets just a few days ago from goldstar.com....half price - and the cheapest seats in the balcony. What a pleasant surprise! We had the best seats in the house - front row center in a balcony that has only 2 rows. It's a gorgeous little theater that has only 290 very comfortable seats - good acoustics, too. But now about the show. Without going on and on, I'll just say it's one absolutely not to miss! Getting there was a separate adventure. Because the theater is only a few blocks from Wrigley Field, and there was an afternoon Cubs game at the same time, we knew ordinarily difficult parking would be impossible. So we took Metra to Irving Park - then the 80 bus to Southport and walked 2 blocks to the theater....very slick. I can't think of a better way to spend a dreary, drizzly afternoon.
