How was your experience?
This production of Timon of Athens was at an off the beaten track small theatre in North Hollywood. A Sunday afternoon performance is probably not usually well attended, and in this one, the cast outnumbered the audience about two to one (it was a very large cast). Timon is a diffuclt play to pull off with an originally kind of unsympathetic main character who becomes pretty much a complete misanthrope when fortune turns against him. Having said that, this production was superb. All of the actors were great and the production made good use of minimal resources. If for nothing else, it was fun to watch most of the characters taking apart an entire roast chicken in the banquet scene! I have tremendous respect for this small company's aim of doing the entire Shakespear canon and for their willingness to take on the less well known plays in addition to the crowdpleasers. Well worth a trip but dont expect a happy ending.
