How was your experience?
I am at a loss for words to describe how much I enjoyed "One Night with Janis Joplin." It was quite simply awesome. Mary Bridget Davies is sensational. She must be channeling Janis to put on that performance. Sabrina Elayne Carten has a terrific voice and is riveting in her representation of the black musical divas that influenced Janis ... Nina Simone, Odetta, Aretha Franklin. The band is excellent, the back up singers are good and the set is nice. I didn't have a single complaint. And I couldn't believe I was watching a performance in DC. Many in the audience were in my age group and could be seen mouthing the words to the songs. However, unlike the usual DC audiences they were very animated and involved. During the song before intermission everyone was up dancing and clapping. At one point a woman shouted out "You're amazing!" They leaped to their feet after several songs and gave everyone a loud and rousing ovation at the end. Lucky I didn't see it at the beginning of the run. I might have gone broke going back to see it again and again.
