How was your experience?
Director Dr. Eric Nelson put together an outstanding program for the last concert this season of the award-winning Atlanta Sacred Chorale. Beginning with music created by composers such as Mendelssohn, Gorczycki, and Dan Forrest which featured lyrics from the Psalms, the singers moved into familiar hymns from the American Hymnbook of the mid-1800's, including "Amazing Grace," "Simple Gifts," and the unsurpassed "Bound for the Promised Land" arranged by Mack Wilberg. Of particular beauty was "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," featuring guest cellist Guang Wang and arranged by Dr. Nelson. The Chorale closed the evening with a series of spiritual songs that put grins on the faces of the audience: we could barely sit still when they launched into "Where the Sun Will Never Go Down." This is choral music at its finest, delivered flawlessly in the beautiful acoustics of the Schwartz Center at Emory. I hope to never miss another concert of the ASC.
