How was your experience?
This was a very enjoyable evening. The weather was perfect. Didn't even need a sweater. I'd never been to the Ford before. It's beautiful. And you can really smell the pine trees. We even saw a shooting star. I'd give the venue alone five stars. I was a little disappointed in the flamenco. I'm still giving it five stars because my disappointment is due to my own expectations. It seems this flamenco was a Spanish gypsy style. I'm sure it was very authentic. But I was hoping for a little more...I don't know how to put it...Hollywood Flamenco, perhaps? Choreographed and maybe with the occasional castanet...? I think the best way to describe what we saw is to say "flamenco improv". The incredible dancers seemed to move as the spirit and music moved them. And the gypsy singing is sometimes a little screechy. Seemed kind of like we had stumbled in to a (really large) bar in Spain on Flamenco Karaoke Night. As I said, I'm sure it was all very authentic which is why I'm giving it five stars. It just wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. Still, very enjoyable. - Don't dress formal but do dress up a little. Make it a festive occasion when you go to the theatre. - Take the free shuttle. It is so much faster than dealing with the parking lot. - It isn't made clear on the website, but...YES, you can bring food and drink inside the amphitheatre. Arrive early so you can picnic (we sat on the stairs). If you are really dressed up (or wearing white) you might want to bring a towel or blanket to sit on as you picnic.
