The theater itself is quite nice - though it gets stuffy - especially when the play goes beyond the 2-hour mark - and this went well beyond that. The performers ranged from adequate to excellent, but the director made the bizarre choice of having them use German accents (which is silly, since Germans don't sound German to each other - and this show is not normally performed with them) - the choice made many lines difficult to understand and killed a lot of lines which would have garnered laughs. The songs played during the scene changes were fun as well, though most of them were anachronistic. The most glaring error was the program - which doesn't credit the author - Carl Sternheim - but only the adapter - Steve Martin. There's no doubt that Martin's name is the bigger selling point, but revising history to say he WROTE the play is unconscionable.
