How was your experience?
54 Below is a beautiful venue with a warm, intimate feeling. There are long communal tables directly in front of, and perpendicular to, the stage. We were first in line, and this is where we were seated. Next to the long tables there are tables for 2 or 4, and behind the communal tables along the rear wall on a raised platform there are semicircular booths for up to 6 people. The sightlines are good no matter where you sit. As my companion and I don't drink, we chose to satisfy the minimum by having dinner. The food was quite good and the service efficient and professional. The 3-course prix fixe is a good deal, or you can order ala carte. By New York standards, the prices are reasonable for food of this quality. It was a Tuesday night, and we were attending Paquito D'Rivera's 9 PM performance, which, as always, was highly enjoyable. Our only complaint was that we had to wait outside (in the rain) for half an hour before the show because the only possible place to wait inside, the bar area, is very small. Nevertheless, we plan to return soon to this lovely nightspot.
