How was your experience?
It's hard to review Renton Civic Theatre's version of A Funny Thing... as I always have to remind myself that the RCT isn't the 5th Avenue Theater or even the Village Theatre. It is a community theatre and it really feels like it. Fortunately I saw Annie there last year, so I had an idea what to expect, and to set my bar a bit lower than it would be at other local theaters. The show, overall, was fine. Not great, but fine. The actors looked like they were having fun and the singing was usually spot on, but I didn't care for the unnecessary gender-bending of the main character (Pseudolus). She did a fine job playing a male character, but there were far too many instances where bits of song or book weren't altered for the bend and it would constantly affect my immersion. Should you go see it? As long as you have experienced community-style theater and/or high school/college theater, then you should be fine in seeing A Funny Thing... at the RCT, just don't pay full price for a ticket.
