How was your experience?
Show was well-directed and as bittersweet as I remember, with all those great Sondheim tunes I'm still whistling 2 days later ...however, we were mystified by the casting of Bobby. The rest of the cast felt much more "theatrical" to us, with a lot more presence onstage, bigger voices and really immersed in the time and place, while the lead seemed to have wandered in off the street 10 minutes ago and really could not handle the demands of some of his songs. I won't say it spoiled it for me, but his look and his performance did not fit with the rest of the production. The "Not Getting Married" song was the best I've ever seen it done. She stole the show. "The Ladies Who Lunch" was also well-done by a fine actress, and the memories of Elaine Stritch and others who have sung it is a tough act to follow.
