How was your experience?
CHANCE is an unusual and brave new musical not to be missed. I saw this show last night and I was so moved by the story that tears were in my eyes during the finale. Reading the other reviews, I have to say that I think the other reviewers are not seeing this show for what it is. This is a story about an older gay man who is pushed out of the nest by a goddess he conjures up. His goddess is a glamorous, glorious movie star played perfectly by the extraordinary Randy Roberts who manipulates him into a relationship with a young escort named Chance. Chance is not drugged out, street hustler but more like a lost kid who's found something that works for him except not really. What happens? At the end, Gregory (played by Richard Hefner) has an epiphany that is nothing more than a moment of real compassion. I have to say that I'm a bit of Buddhist, so I have an inkling of what the author is trying to achieve and I think he accomplishes it: a moment of insight into the truth of emptiness that transforms Gregory forever. It's not an easy concept to explain but the finale "Somewhere In Time" certainly made me feel it. Besides that, I laughed a lot along the way. Highly recommended even though the ideas are complex and probably hard to understand for the average theatergoer. Gorgeous music played by Tammy Hall leading the three piece band. Five Stars without a doubt!
