How was your experience?
When I mentioned to a friend that I was going to see a Neil LaBute play, he responded, "I think he is a mean spirited jerk who treats me (the audience) and his characters without any respect." Funnily enough, though, I have now seen not one but TWO LaBute plays in the past few months (the first was "reasons to be pretty" at SF Playhouse) and I can honestly say that I enjoyed them both. "This Is How It Goes" is a well-written, well-constructed, thought-provoking play with three meaty roles (played to perfection by a trio of veteran Bay Area actors) that gave my husband and me a lot to talk about on the drive home. I don't think it's mean-spirited; parts of it will make you squirm, though.
