How was your experience?
I've been avoiding writing this review for the past several days. I'd heard about Chess: A Musical several years ago, but never had the chance to see it. Now that I have, I feel that I haven't been missing anything. I need to say that the cast and production was fine. There were some good voices and moments, but they couldn't overcome my complete and utter lack of caring about the story and the characters. I wasn't even halfway through the first act before I started considering leaving at intermission. I did stay, but only because I'd paid for parking and felt I should "get my money's worth." The second act didn't change my opinion at all and I spent most of it waiting for the production to end. Should you go see this production of Chess: A Musical? I can't suggest it. I don't think I'd suggest going even if the 5th Avenue Theatre were hosting it and I had free tickets and parking. To sum up, the acting, singing, and production were okay, but the story didn't interest me at all.
