How was your experience?
I wanted to like this. I loved the movie and I truly enjoyed my first experience with the company, Dog Meets God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. Unfortunately Psycho Beach Party misses the mark. There were too many times when the cast seemed to be under-rehearsed, unsure of their next line or blocking. The story is intended to be campy, but either the actors and/or the director attempted to "camp it up," which completely negates the effect. What made the movie work, what makes camp work, is when the actors are well-cast for their roles and buy into those parts fully, and with few exceptions--most notably Elizabeth Battey, who WAS Berdine--that didn't happen here. I felt for Joey C. Pelletier as Beethoven; I just felt sorry for Pelletier as Chicklet, not because he was particularly bad, but because he was stuck in this production. The story is VERY different from that in the film and I'm afraid there is very little "psycho" at this beach party. As someone else stated, I did laugh quite a bit, but it was rarely for the reasons intended by the cast.
