How was your experience?
It is great to see quality theatre back by Intiman. Even though this play was written 60 years ago, it is as relevant now as it certainly was then. Biases and prejudices are part of all of us, it is how we filter and deal with them that matters, as Alice Childress's play presents brilliantly. Also brilliant is the cast who do a masterful job of presenting the story of struggle of African American actors in theatre at that moment in history. Standouts are Tracy Michelle Hughes as Wiletta (great voice), Mark Anders as the white director and G. Valmont Thomas as the veteran actor. I have seen two shows done by Valerie Curtis-Newton, Director who is part of faculty at UW, and have very impressed at the staging done to maximize the impact of the actors.
