How was your experience?
I am a 35 year fan of Dave Mason and was probably one of the first Goldstar members to purchase tickets. picking up the tickets, I was not sure why the information was so confusing about the doors opening at 7 or 8. I was unsure about the General Admission note so I arrived early. tickets were indeed reserved. Although there were many vacant seats (poor promotion?) the 4 piece band was tight, and Dave's voice was as young as ever. Lead guitar was stellar, drummer and keyboards above average. The stage was not set up for an intimate show, however. Players were standing too far apart to interact much. light show was interesting but backup singers would have helped give depth to Dave's lead vocals. Considering that Dave is one of the iconic songwriters of the '60s and played with top names around the world, why didn't he invite some of his LA buddies to sit in for a few songs? 9 pm was too late to start this show on a week night, in my opinion. Venue was too large. If he had some new music out right now, it would have attracted more people.
