How was your experience?
I am an industry photographer in Los Angeles and decided to attend last minute by invite from another attendee. At the door I was told I DID NOT need a photo pass as everyone in there was carrying cameras. They opened my bag, reviewed my camera and gave the go ahead. Because I typically shoot from the back of the room I use an 80-200mm lens. After a half hour of shooting I went to the balcony and a giant black security guard informed me that "the bands management" had authorized that security could apprehend and destroy my camera if I did not leave the premises immediately. I was able to get the camera in my bag and get out of the club but with three people following me around until I was able to find the rest of my party and leave. I will not recommend or return to this establishment without some sort of explanation or apology for how I was treated. Regardless of the lower "Gold Star" price, the entire experience was terrible and not at all recommended for anyone who wants to actually enjoy their music experience. The staff is awful and threatening. It seems apparent that they truly feel that they can cause harm or damage to guests at will - and above all, I paid to enjoy a show, and did NOT get to enjoy for more than 30 minutes before being ejected for a camera that was approved at the door. AVOID the House of Blues at all costs! Mickey, on the other hand was great for the half hour I was able to see him perform. I would have liked to see more.
