How was your experience?
To start on a positive note, I like the central message of the story and overall the show is cute and seems to be geared primarily toward young children. The woman voicing the Dragon had an amazing voice, Fiona was excellent, and Lord Farquaad was funny. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with this show. I really wanted to love it as my daughter's high school will be performing 'Shrek' as their Spring Musical. The night we attended there seemed to be many 'technical difficulties' (i.e. crackling mics, the person running 'spots' lagged in their timing, etc). Personally, I felt that the script in and of itself was weak, there were many long and awkward pauses during songs as well as dialogue (and yes, I can handle pauses for dramatic/emotional effect but these were just strange), and that some of the actors didn't quite understand 'comedic timing'. To be fair, they could have just been having a rough night. I know many other people that went to other performances during the same run and they loved it. I am thankful that there were tickets made available through Goldstar as I would have been very upset to have spent full price on tickets to this show.
