How was your experience?
This is not an easy play for the uninitiated, and at least 1/3 of the audience left at intermission. That said, it is intensely rewarding if you first see THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, which is playing at Cygnet on alternate days, and if you bother to do a bit of research beforehand, specifically on Tristan Tzara and Dada, Vladimir Lenin, James Joyce, and Zurich during WWI. Yes, homework may seem a bit much to ask when we are used to simply sitting down and watching entertainment that takes no effort whatsoever, but it is definitely worth the study. Stoppard has woven a hilarious narrative that takes all the above aspects and shakes them up in the mind of an old man, with great results. Splendid acting and a versatile cast (also performing in EARNEST) make the show a real winner.
