How was your experience?
I like The American Century Theater because you see for very reasonable prices historically important plays, usually true to their own context, and the dramaturg writes up a very detailed audience guide which puts everything in perspective, talks about the playwright, Broadway, etc. Come Blow Your Horn was Neil Simon's first successful play, and this production was true to his form-- somewhat caricatured characters, swift, numerous one-liner jokes, and some unexpected turns which also bring laughter. This play used more farce than some of his plays, and the director chose to have the actors exaggerate and deliver the one-liners at lightning speed, which I think caused some in the audience to miss them. A few of the jokes were genuinely dated, but there were plenty of others to set the comedic mood. The set was excellent, and the acting very good for most characters (allowing for some exaggeration, which I myself would have toned down a bit.).Overall, an enjoyable experience.
