How was your experience?
My husband and I decided to take in the show for our anniversary. Between us, we have many, many years of Broadway and local theater-going experience. We found it "an embarrassment of riches" in relation to the wonderful performers, music and lyrics, but the book simply lacked the focus the story was predicated on. Act I, in particular, was overly long, complicated and confusing. It has the potential to be a very good, if not great, show, but, right now, it lacks the coherence it needs to be a solid hit. It's like a big slab of marble that needs a fine sculptor to carve away what is not needed. Even in Act 2, which was much tighter, you don't show a plane going down and leave people hanging--literally--without clearly resolving what actually happened. A lot of the book was kind of like that.
