How was your experience?
I love this show, I've seen it at least 6 times since first seeing the original Broadway cast at The Shubert in 1995. I enjoyed the current cast for the most part, particulary Belle, but both Gaston and the Beast were smaller in stature than their characters normally are portrayed (I did enjoy their voices and performances). The Beast is usually very large, whether built-up by the costuming or played by a very tall man. Both Gaston and the Beast are barely the same height as Belle, and I found that made the Beast not as intimidating as he is supposed to be in the first act. There were some sound issues last night. A few times there was a static-like sound, as though microphone wires were loose, and several times, particularly during dialogue, the sound was too low and it was very difficult to hear what characters were saying. The way the staging was done had a few issues if you didn't have a seat nearly dead-center. I had a seat in the middle of Orchestra Terrace which had a slightly to the left view of the stage and I could not see about half of what happened in the forest scenes because of the curtain used in front for those scenes which blocked my view of anything to the left of center stage. It is still well worth attending, but I couldn't give it 5 stars this time.
