How was your experience?
Excellent performances and solid production design are strong selling points of this show, but the play itself -- Eric Simonson's adaptation of Mark Harris's 1956 baseball novel about a catcher with Hodgkin's disease -- is uninspired stuff. Certain details of the plot will probably be lost on viewers unfamiliar with 1950s professional baseball. Nonetheless, a few moments leave a lump in the throat, and Evan Crump's performance as pitcher (and narrator) Henry Wiggen is superb.
