How was your experience?

Clear I hated it I didn't like it It was OK I liked it I loved it!
A disclaimer: the audience loved this play; my friend and I were definitely in the minority. Harmony tells a remarkable story and one that's well worth telling. It just deserves BETTER telling - better writing and better music. The writing was so hackneyed and so cloying that I recoiled. Most of the performers were "performing" rather than feeling. I am the child of a man whose arms were broken by the Gestapo and who escaped from Germany at 13; I really really wanted to love this play. But the dialogue and the players often rang false to me. The music was gorgeously played by the pit orchestra, but the songs (with one exception) were unremarkable. The visuals were gorgeous, but there were no gems in that jewelbox. Ruth Stern (Hannah Corneau), was the exception; I loved her voice and delivery. But the show as a whole needs a rewrite of both script and music. I hope they'll do it.
