How was your experience?
Very disappointing. From poor production, such as a traveling troubedor to singing of “Amen, Amen” at the curtain call to way more talking than showing, the play didn’t do the book or film upon which it was based justice. The lead players, the black itinerant and the Mother Superior, were both good. But in so much of it we were told what was going on rather than becoming involved in it. For example, a priest tells us about the man’s leaving. In better hands, it could have been a very powerful scene between the man and the nuns. Altogether, well worth missing.
