How was your experience?
I have to let everyone know that the playwright is a friend of ours, first, so you know that I'm biased, but I did love the play very much. A sharp story of a middle-aged man living with his mother focuses on the protagonist's issues with Catholicism, his mother, and women. The woman in question is the dominatrix that moved in next door. Our protagonist beats himself with a leather belt as self-punishment for the guilt he feels over his father's death, his relationship with his mother, and his life that has gone nowhere. This makes the play sound too serious when it is a dark comedy (emphasis on dark!) with many witty, clever lines of dialogue, tight writing and sharp observations. For fans of "Bob's Office Party", this is a play written by star/author of that play, Joe Keyes, and I sure hope Joe gets the opportunity to put this on again, as it's a very entertaining evening out.
